Ciao or buongiorno? Don't be too casual in Italy
Ciao to a shopkeeper you don't know sounds too familiar. Say buongiorno - or buonasera later in the day.
Mia walks into a gelateria with a cheerful ciao. The owner raises an eyebrow.
